Michael Mansfield KC

Michael Mansfield is an English barrister and head of chambers at Nexus Chambers. He is a leading KC in civil liberties and human rights (including legal actions against the police) and was recently described as "the king of human rights work" by The Legal 500.

He has worked to undo miscarriages of justice, state oppression and official negligence in many high-profile cases. He represented the family of Stephen Lawrence and the families of the victims of the Bloody Sunday massacre at official inquiries. Following the disgraceful treatment of the families of the victims of the Hillsborough disaster by the media, he represented five families at the inquest, at which they were completely vindicated. He acted for Mohammed al Fayad in his pursuit of the truth of the events surrounding the death of his son, Dodi al Fayad and Princess Diana in 1997. His advocacy helped to secure the exoneration of the wrongly imprisoned Birmingham Six in 1991.

He helped the two accused in the McLibel case defeat the case brought against them, and represented the families of the victims of the Grenfell Tower fire at the official enquiry into the disaster which concluded in 2024. He is also active in defence of the environment and animal rights. See his page at the Nexus Chambers website, and his Wikipedia entry.
